1 Why should I attend this conference?
Humans are interdependent and every challenge we face is interconnected. This complexity asks for every stakeholder to an issue to be involved.
MBBI is looking for ways to learn from each other in an open dialogue, share our needs and the needs of our communities and organizations, in a safe space, focusing on sustainable peace for development.
The conference will provide a space in which people can share their personal stories around this central theme. Personal stories include how the theme is having an effect on you, what you would like to change to make this better and what is stopping you. Find out what another perspective can do to change this.
This conference is uniquely structured to mirror a multi-stakeholder process. The conference offers a place to network with MBBI members, mediators, peacebuilders, and professionals from all fields. You will be able to meet with those affected by conflict on the ground, those who negotiate peace, and members of the military – to widen perspectives on how to address violent conflict.
2 Why is this theme important?
The theme of the conference is, ‘keep people in the heart of conflict in charge’, because war, religious differences and ideological disputes continue to strain efforts to achieve social order around the globe. The global community currently faces a number of critical issues such as environmental degradation, climate change, poverty, mass migrations and deepening social tensions. These have become the norm.
Through years of trial and error, we are forced to recognize that military solutions alone cannot succeed, that legal processes alone take too long to implement, and diplomacy alone fails to touch those who suffer the most from violence. It is imperative that we work together and add the people at the heart of conflict to the table.
Thankfully international laws and practices have changed to create space for civil society. That is the beginning of this major shift toward people-centered peacebuilding.
3 What is the design of the day?
This conference is an interactive process. 15 inspirational panelists will share their insights and experience in 3 sessions. Following each panel there will be structured interaction for all participants and panelists together. In this part you take leadership of your own development: exchanging experience and insights with others in dialogue. We ensure a carefully designed and informal process.
